Three parts In Flames (ex members), one part Dark Tranquillity and spice it up with a pinch of The Haunted and you get the ingredients of the supergroup The Halo Effect. Daniel Svensson on drums, Peter Iwers on bass, Mikael Stanne on vocals and axe masters Niclas Engelin and Patrik Jensen. Jensen is filling in for Jesper Strömblad who is not playing live with the band. But it is Mr. Strömblad who is the brain behind many of the awesome riffs. The gig at Amager Bio in Copenhagen this Thursday night was the second in a month of touring Europe and with the opening acts Pain and Bloodred Hourglass.

THE HALO EFFECT
With a fresh album in the baggage “March of the unheard” the second in order since the debut “Days of the lost” a little more than two years ago, this can only be a successful evening. I had the feeling of “finally” in the audience. To first wait for the long-awaited follow-up and to finally hear the songs live. They performed the most powerful songs from both albums with a slight advantage to the debut. Daniel Svensson behind the drums is an excellent drummer and makes no mistakes, he does a killer job as a rhythm section. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

PAIN
I don’t know much about Pain except that Peter Tägtgren is the brain behind the band. Everyone has probably heard of the studio The Abyss where many metal records have been immortalized, it is Peter’s studio. But he also appears as a singer in both Hypocrisy and the above mentioned Pain. Pain plays danceable industrial metal and behind the drums is his son Sebastian Tägtgren and he knows his offbeats.

BLOODRED HOURGLASS
Finnish Bloodred Hourglass was completely new to me but they made a good impression with their mix of melodic death and trash and I liked it. Jarkko Hyvönen behind the drums made a great impression with a compact groove. As a first support act you don’t have access to much of the stage but what’s the point when you can get close to the most important member of the band, the drummer.
